PANEL ONE (upper lefthand quarter of page)
The captain's quarters. Low 'timbered' ceiling. Seated around a
colonial style table, Krumm, Bretta, Tarrant, Demondion-Echeverria,
and Echeverria-Estrella. Everybody has a drink. At the back of the
panel, over an upholstered 'window seat', mullioned windows look out
upon the stars and a brightly-colored nebula.
Krumm: 'You are officers of the Jendyne Empery-Cirot. An ambassador
and a frontier guardian. Why would you act against your government
this way?'
Narrative (top of panel): 'A few minutes later, in the captain's
quarters ... '

Echeverria-Estrella: 'Father and I are patriots, Captain. It is Burton
Halliwater who betrays Sibola and the Jendyne Empery-Cirot.'

Krumm: 'Engendering unrest that will serve as his excuse to turn the

Demondion-Echeverria: 'To the extent that it is not already. It is an
old story, Phoebus.'
Echeverria-Estrella: 'Generally ending in the collapse of a
civilization.'
PANEL FIVE
Three-shot. Bretta and the two Jendynes. Demondion-Echeverria is
pouring an amber liquid into a glass from a crystalline decanter.
Bretta: 'How did you destroy those ships so completely?'
Demondion-Echeverria: 'Miniature steam launches -- 'toledos' -- filled
with Seefore, a chemical explosive.'

Echeverria-Estrella: 'A long-forgotten art that works within a
#-field, learned from aliens who learned it originally from humans. We
