Papilio: 'We have certain uses for a substance common on human worlds,
but non-existent on ours.'

Halliwater: 'And that substance?'

PANEL TWO

Hallwater on his throne, viewd from behind the _Nacyl_. He has his
chin in his hand as if deep in deliberation.

Papilio: 'Hemoglobin, Ceo, a component of mammalian circulatory fluid.
It is a highly complex molecule that cannot be synthesized. It can be
_harvested_, however, from many species found on human -- '


PANEL THREE

Halliwater, in tight closeup, looks angry.

Halliwater: 'Animals on my estate -- which is to say, the planet --
are protected and may not be disturbed by anyone ... but me.'

Heliconius (from out of panel): 'But where ... ?'

PANEL FOUR

Halliwater sits up and extends his arms to the side and curving
slightly upward, like a buddha or St. Francis.

Halliwater: 'We will tap another source to get you what you want. All
my subjects will be required to contribute a pint or two. Should any
individual fail to accede, you may have his entire supply. Will that
do?'

Two-shot, Ariadne and Plumjudy.

Ariadne: 'Why, yes, Ceo, that will do nicely.'

Plumjudy: 'We would warn you, however, that, like humans, not all
_Nacyl_ are of one mind regarding the issues of the day.'

your enemies more congenial.'
