1. Starting up a rope ladder to the ship, Odysseus looks back at ‘us’ with a charming smile and an almost sinister twinkle in his eye.
ODYSSEUS 1
I'm going to live forever.
ODYSSEUS 2
Tell our son whatever fables you like, but tell him I accepted nothing from the gods – no gift or punishment –
2. Circe sadly watches Odysseus scramble up the rope ladder, to the ship's deck. The sails are going up.
ODYSSEUS 3
Tell him we are more than toys for gods, to break and discard at their whim!
ODYSSEUS 4
Tell him his father wrote his own story, and saw it to the end.
3. Circe stands on the shore, sadly watching the ship sail toward the horizon. High clouds on the horizon seem to be taking the rough shapes of gods.
CIRCE 5
I showed you the ending already. You're a fool, Odysseus.
CIRCE 6
Why the gods didn't just kill you long ago, I'll never know.
4. The clouds have taken the rough shapes of POSEIDON and HERMES, who look down at the ship sailing the empty blue sea far below. Poseidon is surly, while Hermes is merely curious.
HERMES 7
Why didn't we just kill him long ago?
POSIEDON 8
I wish now I had.
POSEIDON 9
But this Odysseus is something I haven't seen before. I fear…
5. TWO SHOT Hermes looks at Poseidon with quizzical amusement, while Poseidon looks filled with dread. They're both still in cloud form.
POSEIDON 10
I fear this is how the Titans felt when they first looked on Zeus.
POSEIDON 11
Something fundamental is changing, and he is in the eye of it. These days even gods must tread carefully, Hermes…
