The Transcript For This Page

PANEL ONE (upper lefthand quarter of page)

Closeup of Demondion-Echeverria beneath the liquid surface, shown e
from the collarbones up. His head is thrown back, his eyes clenched as
if in agony, and an enormous gout of air is coming out of his
wide-open mouth and he clears his lungs to allow the liquid medium
into them.

Demondion-Echeverria: 'AAAAAAAAGGGHHH!!!'

Narrative: 'They say that first breath is the hardest. I wouldn't
know.'

PANEL TWO (upper righthand quarter of page)

At the bottom of the pool, two extremely comely emzeebeed maidens
dressed in their little handkerchiefs assist Demondion-Echeverria into
a luxuriant robe (its bottom hem is weighted). He has somehow lost his
ponytail holder, and his long hair now floats all around his head like
the puffball of a dandelion.

These girls look happier and more willing -- something in the
waters, perhaps. Or maybe the tips are better.

WE NEED TO INVENT A NEW KIND OF WORD BALLOON FOR SUBLIQUID SPEECH.
A TRADITIONAL THOUGHT BALLOON WOULD BE PERFECT, BUT IT'S TAKEN.

Demondion-Echeverria: 'Thank you, my lovelies!'

Both girls, same word balloon: 'You're welcome, Ambassador!'

----------------------------------------------------------------------

PANEL THREE (lower lefthand quarter of page)

Hair streaming behind his head, Demondion-Echeverria swims through
what looks like a perfectly ordinary corridor of a luxury hotel. There
are flowers in a vase, small tables, even paintings on the walls. The
only thing that betrays the real location is that Demondion-Echeverria
is horizontal, about four feet above the floor, and has a thin stream
of residual bubbles slipping from a corner of his mouth.

Narrative: 'The medium wasn't water, but liquid fluorocarbon, charged
with oxygen, vitamins, other life-extenders -- and maybe something to
encourage the ladies.'

PANEL FOUR (lower right quarter of page)

Demondion-Echeverria from the rear, from the waist up. His long
hair still floats all around his head. As he pushes a doorbell button,
we look over his shoulder at a closed door with a small plaque:

'Captain Phoebus Krumm (Retired)'

Voice (from inside): '_Go away!_'
