AGAMEMNON
Everyone says that at first. Except me. I arrived with eyes open, after my wife stabbed me to death in my bath.
ODYSSEUS
Really? Why?
AGAMEMNON
Who knows? Women. So what did you in?
ODYSSEUS
Told you. Nothing. Sailed on on my own.
AGAMEMNON
I doubt it. You're not that stupid.
(sniffs Odysseus; is surprised)
Still, you do smell alive… and it explains the ship and the sword… Most of us arrive bearing only our scars…
(amused)
Walk with me.
Agamemnon signals his followers, who form a barricade between the crowd and the ship as he and Odysseus begin to stroll, followed at a respectful distance by Ajax (he glowers at Odysseus with hatred) and Achilles (seething with nervousness and impatience, as if he's dying to ask Odysseus something). Odysseus becomes no less wary, and keeps his sword ready.
ODYSSEUS
If you intend to steal my life –
AGAMEMNON
No, I've seen your tenacity when cornered, and I suspect life is done with me. So what brings you to hell?
