The Suitors are gathered on the floor to look up at Penelope, who stands on a balcony and speaks imperiously and grimly, flanked by an equally imperious and grim Telemachus and, further back, also grim but head bowed respectfully even though he steals furtive glances, Eumaeus. Telemachus holds Odysseus' bow down by his side, mostly hidden by his body; he's otherwise dressed in full warrior regalia sans helmet, as if in dress uniform for a very solemn event. Torches are lit on the walls. Also around, under the torches, are huge open Grecian urns filled with liquid.
