What Comes Next

The War is Over. We Won.

The war is over, but This Means War has a ways to go. Novo Paolo/Bubbleopolis is still in a nebula/stellar nursery, no one knows what happened to the planet Sharen (center of the Intergalactic Council), and the status of the now-surrendered Invaders is yet to be resolved. What will they do when they learn their homeworld is basically destroyed? Will Alyss and Li be re-united? How about Diana (the real one) and Otto?

These questions will be resolved in the next few weeks, before This Means War part 3 wraps in late May.

After that, I plan to go BACK in time about 400 years, to when Alyss and Li left their home in the Sol System to colonize a new world on the far side of the galaxy. As one might expect, hijinks ensue. New subtitle yet to be determined, start date sometime in around the start of July. Stay tuned!

Strip 8

Panel 1
Exterior shot of Burner flying through space.

Fionella (from inside ship): It looks so – small.

Panel 2
Inside the ship, Fionella and Guy are gazing out through an observation port at Terra, now a couple of millions miles distant, appearing just large enough that we can see her as a crescent (about 1/8 phase).

Guy: By the time we reach Ceres, Terra will look like a tiny speck, lost in the Sun’s glare.

Guy (2): But hardly small in importance. Terra is the vital center of an expanding human sphere, the guardian of civilization and its values.

Panel 3
The two are now strolling down a corridor, away from the viewport. Guy is in full-bore lecture mode. Fionella listens politely but with an eyebrow raised – her critical thinking is engaged.

Guy: There’s always a danger that people who live on a frontier will forget who they are. They’ll fail to see the ties that bind them to the homeland.

Panel 4

They walk past a ship’s crewman who’s loitering in an alcove. As he speaks to them through a sly grin, they react with shock and a bit of embarassment.

Crewman: Hey, if you guys are into bondage, I know where you can get some fur-lined handcuffs.
